Library News for May 25, 2009

May 23, 2009

Our summer reading period has almost arrived. We will dedicate the month of June to our children’s programming as usual. Our first program is on Tuesday, June 2, at 10:00 am. Shiloh Regional Library will kick us off with a puppet show that matches our theme this year, “Be Creative @ Your Library.” Our first summer reading program will be on Friday, June 5, at 10 am. Our first quest will be Chris Rumble with a “Reading Pep Rally.” You can read more about Chris at www.chrisrumble.com. The schedule for the rest of the month is as follows: June 12, Ventriloquist Crystal Miller and Floppy (www.nolipsmove.com); June 19, Conductor Jack with a musical program called “The Keys to Creativity” (www.jacknorton.net); and June 26, Magician Justin Chandler (www.themagictomotivate.com ).

The month of July will focus on our teens, and the month of August will focus on adults. We are in the process of finalizing the details on these two sets of programs. I would be very interested in having your input on anything you especially would like to be offered during these times. By special request, I have been in touch with a trained professional about offering a “Selling on eBay” class. Since he is trained, there would be a small charge to attend. If you would be willing to pay $25 to attend this class, please let me know. If we can get 15 people to sign up, I can bring him in.

Each week for the next several weeks, I would like to give you information on different web sites that the library uses that might be of interest to you personally. This week, I would like to talk about twitter. Twitter is a social networking site that businesses (or individuals) can use to send out alerts or messages to their customers, fans, or friends. All you have to do is go to www.twitter.com and sign up for a free account. Search for Everett Horn Library and sign up to be a follower. You can read the updates on your computer. If you prefer,  you can put your cell phone number in your account settings, and our updates will be sent to your cell phone as text messages. It is an awesome way to send out short messages to a lot of people at one time in a very convenient manner.
