The Festival Committee (Harry Epperson, Dinah Harris, Judy Maness, Charlotte Moore, Judy Sanders, Hester Stich, Bobby Dean Williams, and Paul Williams) has been meeting regularly over the last year working on the arrangements. This year’s festival will feature live music, an antique and classic car show, and between 35-40 different booths. The booths feature demonstrators of traditional crafts, vendors of traditional foods, and various non-profits from the area. It promises to be a great day of community fellowship, and best of all it is free! Mark your calendar now, bring your lawn chair, and plan to spend the day with us!

Library News

April 15, 2009

April 12-18 is National Library Week. We would like to send a special message to you this week: The Lexington-Henderson County Everett Horn Public Library is here to help, and we know how! During these tough economic times, library usage is increasing across the country. We are averaging approximately 10,000 uses per month. People are finding that their public libraries are the place to go when they need assistance with almost any type of informational need. The library is reaching out to the community and providing assistance in many non-traditional ways. People now come to the library to file for their unemployment benefits on the Internet. People come to receive assistance in filling out their Federal Income Tax forms. The library is constantly adding to its offerings as the needs of people are changing.
Here is a list of some of the materials and services (some old, some new) that your public library has to offer:
Books are available for all ages in many different genres. If a book is not in our collection, established patrons may request that we borrow it from another library. Audio books are also available on cassette and CD. The library still has a few hundred videos for borrowing, but we also have an ever growing collection of DVDs. The library receives three newspapers and over 40 magazines for the public’s viewing. With the recent addition of new computers (donated by Computers 4 Kids/ConnectedTN), the library now has 25 public access computers. The library offers wireless internet access which is available inside and outside the building. The library offers fax and copy service for a minimal charge. The library houses a very special collection of local history and genealogical material. The library offers special programming throughout the year. Preschool Story Time is held during the school year; awesome summer reading programs are held during the summer. Various adult programs are held during the year including computer classes and special workshops.
The library now has a web presence also. On the library’s web site (www.everetthornlibrary.org) you will find links to some great resources including the following: READS, a website where you can download e-books and audio books for free; Heritage Quest, a genealogy database; Learning Express, a web site that offers practice tests and tutorial course series designed to help you succeed on academic or licensing tests; and, Newsbank’s Tennessee Newspapers Collection, which provides full text copies of many of Tennessee’s major newspapers including the Commercial Appeal. The library’s catalog can also be searched from the web site. You can keep up with library events by reading the library blog. If you prefer, you can subscribe to the library’s calendar online at www.Google.com/calendar. Search for Everett Horn Library. The library has pictures on Flickr; search under people for ehlibrary. Our MySpace page is still under construction, but you may view it by searching for Everett Horn Public Library.
Give us a call if we can be of assistance to you!
