The big news for this week is the Library Friends’ semi-annual used book sale. People have been so generous with their donations; we are expecting a great sale. If you are a Library Friends member, you may attend the special pre-sale on Tuesday, March 3, from 12:00 – 6:00 pm. The sale will be open to the general public beginning on Wednesday, March 4, at 9:00 am. The sale will run during the library’s operating hours Wednesday through Saturday.
There will be no tax assistance this week due to the book sale occupying the community room. FYI, the library requested and received some 1099 forms if anyone is still in need of this form.
Our last genealogy workshop was a huge success, and attendees asked that we do another one on Ancestry.com. We have scheduled for Mr. Robert Taylor to be with us on Monday, March 9, at 1:00 pm, to do a workshop for us on this topic. Make plans now to attend.
Preschool Story Time will be on March 10 at 10 am.
The library will also be hosting a special informative session at the library March 13, at 1:00 pm, on the “New Recovery Act. H & R Block staff member Charlene Bodkins will give you information on how this will affect you and your taxes.
The Library Book Club will be hosting author Julia McBee on March 19 at 1:00 pm as she discusses her book Flame. If you would like to read the library’s copy of this book before the meeting, please let us know.

The Beech River Writer’s Workshop monthly meeting will be held in the Library Community Room on February 25 at 6:00 pm. All writers or aspiring writers from Henderson County are encouraged to attend.
The previously scheduled Library Board meeting has been rescheduled for Thursday, February 26, at 6:00 pm, at the Library.
The Library Friends will be hosting their semi-annual Used Book Sale from March 4 through March 7 during the library’s operating hours. There will be a special Library Friends Members Only sale on Tuesday, March 3, from 12:00 noon until 6:00 pm. If you have any books you would like to donate for this sale, please drop them off at the library. Thanks!

Library News for February 16, 2009
February 13, 2009The library will host live performances of Negro Spirituals on Wednesday, February 18, from 12:00 to 1:00 pm. April Ford, Joy Johnson, and Robert Taylor will be singing. Please come join us for this special concert. Also, please don’t forget to visit our special Black History display titled “Local African-Americans of Achievement.” It will continue through the month of February.
Thursday, February 19, will be an activity filled day at the library. From 12:30 until 4:30, representatives of AARP will be on hand to assist patrons with filling out their income tax forms. At 1:00, the Library Book Club will be meeting to discuss Pigs in Heaven by Barbara Kingsolver. At 5:00, the Library Friends will be meeting for their monthly meeting. They will be discussing their upcoming fundraiser: a used book sale which is scheduled for the first week of March. If you have any books you would like to donate for this sale, just drop them off at the library.
On Saturday, February 21, the Library Teens will be meeting at 1:00 pm.

February 6, 2009February is a very busy month at the library as you can see from the announcements that follow.
All month long, representatives from AARP are present on Tuesdays and Thursdays to assist patrons in filling out their federal income tax forms. Currently, all appointments are filled. However, you may come by and be a standby incase of a no-show. They also try to work in walk-ins as time allows.
If you want to fill out your own income tax forms, the library also has copies of the major forms available. You can pick them up for free in the library’s lobby. If you don’t see what you need out there, please come inside. Most forms can be printed out for you from the internet for a charge of 15 cents a page.

Preschool Story Time will have a special guest on February 17, at 10 am. Children’s author, Pat Winston, will visit along with her character, Earl the Emu.
