Library News for July 28, 2008

July 28, 2008

The online catalog is now up and running. You may access it by going to our web site www.everetthornlibrary.org  and clicking on the “online catalog” link on the left side of the page. You may search our catalog by keyword, subject, title, author, or call number. The results will show you the number of copies we have and whether they are checked out or not. If you see something you would like to reserve, you can call the library at 968-3239 to do so.

Our fine free period runs through Tuesday, August 5. If you have overdue fines on your account, you can call now to have those removed. If you return overdue materials during this time, no fine will be charged. We want to help get the kids ready to check out materials they will need for schoolwork.

Preschool Story Time will resume early this year. Our first session will be on Tuesday, August 12, at 10 am. Spread the word!

On July 17, the library book club will be meeting at 1 pm to discuss The Mistress’s Daughter by A.M. Homes. The public is invited to attend.

Library staff member Jerome Azbell will be meeting with teens on July 19 at 1 pm here at the library. Any teen that is interested in participating in our “Library TEENS” group is encouraged to attend; this includes any youth from 7th-12th grades.

The Library Friends will not be meeting in July but will resume their meetings in August to make plans for all of their fall activities. Fall activities include a booth at the Henderson County Fair in September, a yard sale in October, a book sale in December, and their end of the year party. They are collecting items now for the yard sale and the book sale. If you have anything to donate, you may drop it by the library or call the library at 968-3239 for a pick up. All donations are greatly appreciated as all funds raised help to buy new books, audio books, and DVDs.

For instance, you can click on our “links” page to find a link to The Tennessee Electronic Library. This is an online database that is great to use for homework, research assignments, and general interest information. We also have a link to READS, our free downloadable eBooks and audio books. You will also find a link to Volunteer Voices that provides online access to images of Tennessee’s rich culture and history. For local links, we have included our Chamber of Commerce, Beech River Culture Center and Museum, and the local newspapers.

Library News

July 1, 2008

All during the month of June, teens read for a chance to win some fabulous prizes. The drawing was held Monday, and these were our winners: the I-Pod was won by Kelly Wood, the $50 cash was won by P.J. McCrey, and the portable DVD player was won by Ashley Breeden.

Please see our ad in this week’s paper thanking our summer reading program sponsors.

The Library will be closed Friday, July 4, but will be open on Saturday, July 5.
